🌊 Teaching Our Children to Swim More Than a Summe 🌊 Teaching Our Children to Swim

More Than a Summer Homeschool Outing
Every Thursday, you’ll find us at the pool. 🏊🏾‍♂️

For my family, swimming isn’t just about learning a life skill. It’s about peace, connection, confidence, and appreciating one of Allah’s blessings.

Allah says:
“And We made from water every living thing.”
Qur’an 21:30
Water gives life, cleanses us, cools us, and by Allah’s permission, can bring calm to our hearts and minds.
For us, the pool has become a peaceful place. A neutral place. A place where the children can simply enjoy time with both parents-as the divorce has been hard, a place without without stress, pressure, or conflict.
Just family.
Just water.
Just learning.
Just calm. 💙
For my children, especially with ADHD, autism, anxiety, and overstimulation, I’ve noticed how much swimming helps them regulate.

💙 After swimming, they are calmer, more relaxed, and more connected.
My 15-year-old told me the water makes him feel peaceful... like it rocks his nervous system like a lullaby
That stayed with me.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Your body has a right over you.”
Sahih al-Bukhari
Taking care of our bodies, our minds, and our children’s emotional well-being matters.
This summer, don’t underestimate the simple blessings Allah has placed around you:
☀️ sunshine
🌿 fresh air
🏊🏾‍♂️ swimming
🚶🏾 walks
💙 peaceful family moments
Sometimes healing is not only found in appointments.
Sometimes it is found in moving water, laughter, fresh air, and quality time together.
May Allah place barakah in our families, bring peace to our homes, and help us raise children who are healthy in body, mind, and faith.
Ameen. 🤍

#Salafi vs Salafiste "O People of the Scripture, #Salafi vs Salafiste

"O People of the Scripture, do not go to extremes in your religion, and do not say about Allah except the truth" *Qur'an 4:171

🗝Do not be extreme in the religion!

My resources are one reason why this topic matters so much to me.

Before, in America, I could simply say, "I'm Salafi," & people understood what I meant.
⚠️Living in France, that word often means something completely different. It is frequently associated with an extreme version of Islam, and that is 100% not who I am.

So today I usually say, "I'm #Muslim. I follow the Qur'an and Sunnah," or even "I'm an #orthodoxMuslim," because those words better communicate that I'm talking about traditional Islam~not extremism.

This experience has changed the way I teach my children.
I want them to understand that labels can change from one country to another, but the #Qur'an & Sunnah do not.

I want them to know the difference between sincere religious practice and extremism. I want them to ask questions, verify what they learn, & understand that good character, mercy, justice, and balance are part of Islam.

It's also one of the reasons I create resources like these.
Not to promote a movement.
Not to push an ideology.
But to help children learn the foundations of Islam~the Five Pillars, Qur'an, Sunnah, and good character~in a way that is age-appropriate, peaceful, and rooted in authentic teachings.

Sadly, because of fear surrounding religious extremism, genuine religious homeschooling has become much harder in many places. Families who simply want to teach their children Islam with kindness & authenticity are sometimes viewed through the same lens as those who promote extremism.~Because some ridiculous muslims are #homeschooling & being extreme. AstagfirAllah!

So, before I homeschooled full-time time, I homeschooler part-time in USA. Remember, education & foundation start at home. We are their first teachers. Even in my PreK class, I reminded parents to home educate on off days.
🎯My goal has never changed.
To teach my children & other children to love Allah, love His Messenger ﷺ, follow the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah,& grow into Muslims of wisdom, balance, and excellent
Over the years, I had the privilege of building a Over the years, I had the privilege of building a wonderful community through Sunnah Learners, which began in 2013. My first account, which has since been deleted, had a previous following of more than 3,000 followers, including families, educators, and homeschoolers.
For a time, I was encouraged to change my name to something more secular, which became The Kindergarten Jardin. Looking back, I now understand that this was not the right direction for me, because everything I create must remain connected to Allah.
Whether you followed me from the beginning or have only recently joined, please know how deeply grateful I am for every person who has supported this journey. That original community helped shape who I am today, and I continue to appreciate each of you.
Life has changed significantly since those early years. Many of you first met me while I was homeschooling our children in the Caribbean alongside my then-husband, sharing island life, rainforest-inspired learning, multilingual resources, and our family's educational journey.
Today, my story looks different.
I now live in mainland France as a single divorced mother, navigating a new season of life filled with both challenges and growth.
Homeschooling for most families is heavily restricted in France, and this has changed the way our family approaches education. I now use community schooling as part of our children's learning while continuing to teach, guide, and nurture them at home.
As a mother, I teach my children diversity, acceptance, understanding, and life skills. My children learn to swim through school, and they also have access to a private pool at home. They are exposed to music as part of cultural understanding, not as a daily escape or lifestyle....(continued in comment section)👇
